MODULE 2: DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
Module 2 explores key developmental stages—infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood—through the lens of major theories from psychologists Piaget, Erikson, and Vygotsky. It emphasizes the lasting impact of childhood on adulthood and the various factors influencing individual development and identity. Additionally, it highlights how visuals—ie. facial expressions, colors, accessories and hair—can convey subtle layers of identity, offering a more nuanced portrayal of personal and social identity. In their performance task, students are encouraged to recreate "ID" photos that each represent a specific stage of development. The overarching purpose of this assignment is to bring perspective to identity and the complexities that exist and flow within, with the ultimate goal of fostering a better understanding of our differences and the inevitable changes of life.
MODULE 1: MENTAL HEALTH, PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS & TREATMENTS
Module 1 explores the profound impact mental health has on our individual lives and the broader community. It explores strategies for implementing positive change, both personally and collectively, through generating awareness and creating support systems. Students will learn how to express their personal perspectives on mental health through creating a zine that focuses on subject that they are passionate about as it relates to modern day teenagers and their mental health. Students will learn how to use written and visual communication to convey complex emotions and ideas. By mastering these tools, they can effectively promote awareness and foster a more supportive school environment.
